Wireless Audio: What Could Be More Kleer® Than Sennheiser®?
Here’s a plug for the iPod: it’s incredibly durable! I know that because my earphone wires are always catching on something and, as I unknowingly pull away from that something, my iPod is pulled out of my pocket and smacking the tile floor or the concrete pavement. And, in the last four weeks, a wired mike and an audio/mike headset attached to my computer were totalled when my dog got caught in the wires and, confused, ran away, pulling the wires right out of the devices!
I need a wireless headset!
I was super impressed when I checked out two Sennheiser wireless headphones the other day in one of the audeo equipment stores. Wow! I’ve always been faithful to Sony headphones, but I have to say that I was an audeo novice until I hit the Sennheisers.

Japanese Gadget Controls iPod in Blink of an Eye
A wink, a smile or a raised eyebrow could soon change the music on your iPod or start up the washing machine, thanks to a new Japanese gadget.
The device looks like a normal set of headphones but is fitted with a set of infrared sensors that measure tiny movements inside the ear that result from different facial expressions. The gizmo – called the “Mimi Switch” or “Ear Switch” — is connected to a micro-computer that can control electronic devices, essentially making it a hands-free remote control for anything.
“You will be able to turn on room lights or swing your washing machine into action with a quick twitch of your mouth,” said its inventor, Kazuhiro Taniguchi of Osaka University.
“An iPod can start or stop music when the wearer sticks his tongue out, like in the famous Einstein picture. If he opens his eyes wide, the machine skips to the next tune. A wink with the right eye makes it go back.
“The machine can be programmed to run with various other facial expressions, such as a wriggle of the nose or a smile.”
The Mimi Switch could also store and interpret data and get to know its user, said Taniguchi, chief researcher at Osaka University’s Graduate School of Engineering Science in western Japan.
“It monitors natural movements of the face in everyday life and accumulates data,” Taniguchi told AFP in an interview. “If it judges that you aren’t smiling enough, it may play a cheerful song.”
Some may use the device for relaxation – perhaps by changing music hands-free while reading a book – but Taniguchi said it could also have more serious applications to make people’s lives safer and easier.
“If the system is mounted on a hearing aid for elderly people, it could tell how often they sneeze or whether they are eating regularly,” he said.
“If it believes they are not well, it could send a warning message to relatives.”
The device could also serve as a remote control for appliances for physically disabled people, from cameras and computers to air conditioners, or alert medical services if a person has a fit, he said.
The Ear Switch follows on from an earlier device called the Temple Switch that was small enough to fit inside a pair of eyeglasses and also read the flick of an eyelid.
“As the ear switch is put in the ears, its optical sensors are unaffected by sunlight,” Taniguchi said.
He said he was planning to patent his new device in Japan and abroad, work on a wireless version, and seek corporate funding to market it for practical uses – something he expected might take two or three years.

Wireless Headphones… the Ultimate Convenience
Author: Rc Rougeux
Just recently I was on an airplane, watching the in flight movie and listening to the sound on my headphones. The person in the seat next to me needed to use the washroom so I stood up to move. Unfortunately, the wire caught on the arm of the seat and tore the earbud out of my ear. It was painful and when I sat back down and inspected my earbud I discovered that one of the wires had broken free. This isn’t the first time that headphone wires have become entangled and useless.
That’s why wireless headphones are so good. Many companies make wireless headphones for a variety of reasons. Check out some of the best names in headphone manufacturing, including Iawa, Sennheiser, Shure, and Koss to see if they create the type of wireless headphone that you want.
Wireless headphones have come a long way! I remember wireless headphones in the 80′s had a radio built right in (with a giant antenna) and too two batteries. As you can imagine, those ultra modern headphones looked more like something from a bad science fiction move!
Today, wireless headphones are barely noticeable on a person. If the person uses the earbud or canalbud style of headphones, you can’t even tell that they’re listening to music (although that might explain why they’re dancing around like maniacs).
Wireless headphones are great in the car. If you’re driving down the highway and you get a call on your cell phone, having a hands-free option so you can keep both hands on the steering wheel is idea. These are increasing in popularity and you can sometimes see people walking around with small metallic devices on their ear. These hook over the ear and a small microphone reaches to their cheek, which can pick up their conversation.
Wireless headphones are also useful in an office setting where a receptionist has to walk around (perhaps delivering the mail) while still being able to answer the phone.
Although many advancements are being made in the headphone industry, wireless headphones are going to be a fairly basic model at this point in one regard; they may not be completely appropriate for the audiophile just yet. For the person who loves to listen to music and tries to attain a near theatre quality sound, a circumaural headphone might be the best option. However, these powerful headphones require a power source (for example, from an amplifier) and may not receive enough power from batteries in the headphones themselves. This will change in the near future but it may not be there just yet for the true music aficionado.
For the rest of us, wireless headphones are just the right mix of convenience and quality to hear the sounds we want to hear.
One more thing: Remember to keep the volume down a little and save your hearing!
